23.07.2007, 13:47

Two fast-food giants reporting their second quarter numbers next week are apt to show very different trends with McDonald's continuing its incredible sales roll as Wendy's remains mired in a revenue slowdown.

Hotels in Vilnius

The company said earlier this week that a move to sell 1,600 existing restaurants to a franchiser in Latin America and the Caribbean will cost it nearly $1.6 billion, or about $1.33 a share. Coupled with a gain of 2 cents a share for eliminating the depreciation on those assets, it said it expects to lose 60 cents a share. Knocking out those items, McDonald's said its earnings from operations would be about 71 cents a share -- 4 cents higher than the then-average estimate of analysts polled by Thomson Financial.
